Better than Giannoulias on ABC-7's NewsViews:Berkowitz w/10th Cong. Dist. Republican Candidate Arie Friedman, M.D. on Israel & more;Cable & Streaming
Arie Friedman, M.D.: Here is why I think we absolutely have no choice. Even if we didn’t want to, the instant [Israel] launches an attack [on Iran], we’re involved in a war [with Iran]. The Iranians have made it very clear that they’re going to mine the straits of Hormuz. The primary purpose of the U. S. Navy in that area is to prevent exactly that situation. We would establish a no fly zone over the straits of Hormuz and keep it open and that’s a war.
Jeff Berkowitz: Beth Coulson, have you heard her say the same thing you just said?
Arie Friedman, M.D.: No.

Jeff Berkowitz: You would endorse Republicans, generally?
Arie Friedman, M.D. [10th Cong. District Republican Primary Candidate]: Absolutely.
Jeff Berkowitz: Because [State Rep.] Beth Coulson [R-Glenview], when she was given the chance on this show in 2000 [Sep.14] to endorse George Bush, said she didn’t know [enough about the positions of Gore and Bush], her district [had] sophisticated [voters], she wouldn’t endorse [in the Presidential race]; you would have endorsed George Bush?
Arie Friedman, M.D. [R-Highland Park]: I would have endorsed George Bush.

Jeff Berkowitz: Should the Israelis try to take out the nuclear capability from Iran?
Arie Friedman, M.D. [10th Cong. District Candidate in the Republican Primary]: They may very well have to. The reality is that we should be the ones to do it.
Jeff Berkowitz: Do you think we will?
Relying on Israel to deal with Iran
Arie Friedman, M.D.: I don’t think we will. I think the Israelis will be forced to.
Jeff Berkowitz: And, if they do, do you think the United States will stand by them and support them?
Arie Friedman, M.D.: We won’t have any choice.
Jeff Berkowitz: Is that a yes- they will?
Arie Friedman, M.D.: Yes, because we won’t have any choice.
Jeff Berkowitz: Your recommendation is that [the U. S.] should?
The U. S. goes to war with Iran?

Jeff Berkowitz: Differences between you and Coulson on [abortion]?
Arie Friedman, M.D.: …She described herself as strongly pro-Choice at one of the forums.
