Senator Hagel – Comfortable running with Mayor Michael Bloomberg?

Jeff Berkowitz: Senator Hagel, you know there is a lot of speculation that you might be running on a ticket, a President and Vice-President ticket with the Mayor of New York running as the Presidential candidate and you as the Vice-President.[See here]. You have had conversations- What is your feeling now, would you be comfortable running on a Bloomberg-Hagel ticket?

Senator Hagel [R-NE]: Well, I have said I would make that decision on my political future in the next few months and that’s what I will do. I think American politics today is in as uncertain a time as any we have ever seen. I think Americans next year are going to be looking for leadership who they have confidence in because they will be requiring honest, competent and accountable leadership. I think that will include our candidates for President, Vice-President, as well as all candidates for high office and I suspect because of the uncertain times in which we live, our county is faced with tremendous challenges. I think most Americans are aware of that. They’re going to want to look toward leaders who will come forward with solutions and not be held captive to partisan politics and superfluous issues that are not essential for the future of this country.
