Jeff Berkowitz: Was Kjellander corrupt?

Dan Curry: Kjellander is an insider. He is not the main problem.

Jeff Berkowitz: He is not?
****************************************
Dan Curry: No, I think what is going to have to happen is that there is going to have to be an implosion of the Democrats and I think that the Blagojevich investigation—

Jeff Berkowitz: It may happen? But, then you got Lisa Madigan ready to step in. You got Pat Quinn

Jeff Berkowitz: …Is the Illinois GOP dead?

Dan Curry: Right-- at the moment it is.
*************************************
Jeff Berkowitz: Chicago Casino [get passed], maybe?

Dan Curry: Yes.
******************************
2010 Gubernatorial candidates:
****************************
Jeff Berkowitz: In 2010, who is the gubernatorial candidate for the Republican Party in Illinois?

Dan Curry: I don’t think we really know right now.

Jeff Berkowitz: Tom Cross?

Dan Curry: I don’t think so, I mean maybe.

Jeff Berkowitz: Bill Brady?

Dan Curry: Brady wants to run.
*****************************
Jeff Berkowitz: Have you got anybody else in mind [for Governor]?

Dan Curry: No, I think what is going to have to happen is that there is going to have to be an implosion of the Democrats and I think that the Blagojevich investigation—

Jeff Berkowitz: It may happen? But, then you got Lisa Madigan ready to step in. You got Pat Quinn

Dan Curry: Well, when the bomb goes off, I mean it doesn’t necessarily—

Jeff Berkowitz: You think the others get hurt by that?

Dan Curry: I think so. I think all Democrats are going to be hurt by that.

Corrupt Blagojevich Administration?

Jeff Berkowitz: So, universal health insurance is done, is over for Rod Blagojevich?

Dan Curry: I don’t think he gets it this time. And, I think by the time next year rolls around, I think the federal investigation is going to close in on him.

Jeff Berkowitz: You think Rod Blagojevich is corrupt?

Dan Curry: I think he has run a corrupt administration.

Jeff Berkowitz: But, Judy Baar Topinka could never make that case and he won by nine points. How does that happen?

Dan Curry: Because…he raised 55 million dollars since he

Jeff Berkowitz: So, it is just a matter of money.

Dan Curry: Well, he drowned her out. And, this guy—

Corrupt Republicans?

Jeff Berkowitz: How corrupt are the Republicans? George Ryan, Bill Cellini, Bob Kjellander—are they corrupt?

Dan Curry: There are some corrupt Republicans. George Ryan

Jeff Berkowitz: Was Kjellander corrupt? [For more on Kjellander, see here.]

Dan Curry: Kjellander is an insider. He is not the main problem.

Jeff Berkowitz: He is not?

Dan Curry: The main problem is that the people running government allow insiders like that to—

Jeff Berkowitz: Joe Birkett, your guy, would never go after Kjellander, how come?

Dan Curry: He wouldn’t go after him at one particular time because that was a time to go after the Democrats and not in fight at the time. It was counterproductive.

Jeff Berkowitz: Didn’t the Republican Party have to be cleansed and has it been cleansed yet?

Dan Curry: You know it hasn’t been cleansed but it is going to take an implosion on the Democratic side and it is going to take somebody to gain office and show that they can govern in a non-corrupt manner. I think that is what it is going to take.
************************************
Who could have turned the Illinois Republican Party around?

Jeff Berkowitz: You think Pat O’Malley if he had won that 2002 Primary might have turned things around?

Dan Curry: I think Jim Ryan would have. I think Jim Ryan would have run an honest and effective government. I worked for him before. He didn’t kow tow to the insiders. And, that’s why he couldn’t raise any money because Rod Blagojevich—all the insiders gravitated toward him.
