Crane had been elected in 1969, winning the seat in a special election to replace then Congressman Don Rumsfeld, who had been appointed to a position in the Nixon Administration. In 2004, Congresswoman Bean [D-Barrington] beat Crane 52-48, in a district that went for President Bush, 56-44, over Democrat John Kerry.
Six Republican candidates are now vying in a Primary for the right to take on Cong. Bean. The three major candidates, in terms of Resources, Organization, Message Development, etc. are investment banker David McSweeney, trial lawyer Kathy Salvi and State Rep. Bob Churchill. The three other candidates are Aaron Lincoln, Ken Arnold and Jim Mitchell. Teresa Bartels, who had been a candidate considered to be running a poor fourth of the then four major candidates, withdrew from the race last week and endorsed Kathy Salvi.
