Former Senator Dole to raise Cash for McSweeney

Former Senator Bob Dole, Republican candidate for President a decade ago in a difficult and losing campaign against President Clinton, will be in town next week to raise money for David McSweeney, 8th Cong. District Republican candidate. Dole will be appearing at a fundraising dinner at a private residence in Barrington Hills on September 19.

Dole, a WWII hero, served in Congress for 35 years, with 27 years in the U. S. Senate, before stepping down as Majority Leader in 1996 to run for President. [See here]. Dole was also the Republican candidate for VP on the Gerald Ford ticket that lost to President Carter in 1976. He is married to Senator Elizabeth Dole [R- NC], who had a strong outing opposite Senator Schumer on Fox News Sunday last week, with both facing tough questioning from Chris Wallace.

Dole, 83, has a wealth of inside political stories and insights-- and always has been the master of humorous one liners. Dole will be one of a number of good warm-ups [like the Goo Goo Dolls were for the Rolling Stones' concerts] that McSweeney has coming up before President Bush comes out to raise money in Mid-October, or so, for 6th CD candidate Roskam and 8th CD candidate McSweeney, two of the hottest races in the country [See here].
