When you finish with the math, is Jack Ryan back? And, will that bring back Rod McCulloch, to fight on, for whatever he is fighting?

Larry at www.Archpundit.com tells us,

“To be clear, I am not suggesting Ditka will accept, but there is mutual interest from party officials and Da Coach. It’s looking like the Central Committee would be interested. Draft Ditka reports 6 endorsements. Co Chairman Steve McGlynn, Dr. William Dam,
Bob Winchester and George Preski, I think [State Senator Dave] Syverson [Rockford] is one, and I’m not sure who number six is, but Syverson also has the most votes, given the weighted system—later I’ll add up the totals to see if they have enough of the votes to do it.”

Well, we did the math, and if you assume the above is correct and if you throw in Syverson, that gets the total of the five to less than 30% of the weighted vote. If one surmises that one of the other state party central committee members to endorse Ditka is one of the top six in weighted votes, that still doesn’t get Ditka past 35% of the weighted vote. Close, but no cigar, as Ditka might say. At least, not yet.

More importantly, none of the above may matter—even if Ditka or anyone else gets his or her numbers above 50%. The BUZZ is that the Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee, led by Senator Allen, has told Jack not to file the withdrawal papers, at least not yet.

Apparently, Senator Allen wants to see who the alternative to Jack is, before Jack gets off the ticket.

So, two days left for Big Mama, aka Judy Baar Topinka (See blog entry, below) to announce the Republican Senate Candidate to oppose Democrat Barack Obama.

Her options:

1. Go with one of the previous mentioned embarrassing candidates (See blog entry, below), Jack withdraws and Judy blames it all on Jack. 20% likelihood.

2. Go with the new embarrassing candidate, a mysterious 4 million dollar candidate from the St. Louis suburbs being mentioned on the street, Jack withdraws and Judy blames it all on Jack. 5% likelihood.

3. Beg Jim Thompson to bail her out, Jack withdraws and Judy blames it all on Jack. 5% likelihood

4. Get Ditka to say yes, Get Senator Allen to say Yes to Ditka, Jack withdraws and when the whole country laughs at the outcome of this choice, Judy blames it all on Jack. 20% likelihood.

5. Ask Kjellander, Jim and the Speaker to join her in telling Jack Ryan that perhaps they all were too hasty and they would like to have him back and work together. In short, beg Jack’s forgiveness, so Big Mama, aka State GOP Chairman Judy Baar Topinka, doesn’t get bashed any more by the Senatorial Campaign Committee. The buzz is putting it at 50% that Jack will reverse his withdrawal. If this ends badly, Judy blames it all on Jack.

6. Tick Tock, Tick Tock, two more days.

As to Rod, more to follow.
